It is a question of morality. Indian culture doesn't allow leave-together, while in western culture, it is normal. Our society doesn't endorse pre-marriage sex, yet with the influence of western culture, consumerism and globalization such thing is rampant in Indian society also particularly within the elites. Obviously this vitiates our culture and society but then there is no legal remedy, legal action would be treated as the breach of fundamental right.Is it legal unmarried couples sleeping together in a hotel room in india?
Depends on what you mean by sleeping. Staying in same room is not illegal. But according to law of India, sex between unmarried couple is illegal. But it is rarely enforced. There have been several arrests in past few decades, but courts have never given any sentence to offenders (not that I know of, i could be wrong).
Normally, law enforcement don't go around looking for offenders in bedrooms. But if someone lodges a complaint against it at a police station, police will investigate and arrest the couple under the Indian Penal Code.
Few years ago, Ms Payal Sharma was detained in Agra for premarital sexual arrangement. Later on, Allahabad High Court ruled against it. The verdict of court was, ';In our opinion, a man and woman, even without getting married, can live together if they wish';. The court clarified that cohabitation or living together before marriage as not illegal, and there is a difference between law and morality.
So that is the loophole. Any lawyer can cite the above case and get his/her client free. But it don't stop police to arrest a couple for it.
Any person above the age of 18 years can practice sex with mutual consent, the law of the land has no objection to that, so in that sense it is leagal but our society will never approve such baseless acts and relationships.

Sirjee, its not illegal per se...Indian Legal framework can not act against two consenting ';adults';. however if the female happens to be a minor..then you had it !

If prostitution is legal in INDIA then it is legal to sleep with an unmarried woman in INDIA.
It could be best described as ';immoral'; but not illegal coz two adults by agreement can have sex.
I know I'll get thumbs down for this,can't help it but say-What a dumb question!
