Do I need a pass at the front desk or something? What about using the pool?Can I visit my friends in their hotel room if I'm not staying at the hotel?
no you don't need a pass. Sometimes a hotel requires a key to use the elevator up to the room. But, if you are visiting your friend I'm sure you will be with him/her so don't worry about it? Also, you could ask your friend to get another key from the front desk.
