The organization known as Gideons places Bibles in hotel and motel rooms for the convenience of the guests, if they want to read one.





I have heard numerous accounts of a person considering suicide, who happened to find a Gideons Bible in a motel room, started reading, and found new hope for life through the pages of the Bible.





If it helps even one person, it's worth it.





By the way, the hotels and motels do NOT pay for the Bibles - the members of the Gideons, along with other individuals, make contributions to buy the Bibles that Gideons distribute. Nobody is forced to open the Bible; nobody is being forced to read it. It's there - just in case someone WANTS to read it.
Because the Gideon people call up the hotels and offer them for free or for a very low price and most people in North America are Christian.





Seriously, thats really why. I've worked in the hotel industry for 7 years, 6 of those years spent at the front desk. I even talked to the Gideon people once. You know what they did? They just asked if we needed any and they'd send them to us for free.





I think its idiotic and insulting to other religions and secularism. If a person wants a bible with them on travelling, they should damned well bring it with them rather than expect there to be on in the room.
Not every hotel room has a bible. Those that do have Bible provided by an organization called The Gideons which provides a bible to for every room where the hotel requests it. The aim is to be able to have in every hotel room a source of help in trouble or comfort.
Who knows? But I have a hardy collection of stolen Bibles and Phone books, from the hotels in my library!
I know, it's ridiculous.


It's like like being shown racial purity advertisements from the KKK on TV all the time.
