Yea of course you can use cash. but there's going to be a room deposit tho but you will get it back and you can also give them your card they aren't going to charge your card other then your roomCan I use cash to pay for a hotel room?
They want a card number to place a reservation (a hold) against to guarantee payment. In theory you could give them your card, they place the reservation against the card, you check out and pay cash and they remove the reservation on your card. The tricky part is, they may not remove the reservation very quickly. I have had hotels fail to remove the reservation for a week. However, they should never actually charge your card if you pay cash.
It just depends on the specific hotels policies. Some hotels will accept cash no problem, some will want room, tax and deposit and some hotels REQUIRE a credit card to rent. Where I work a credit card is required to hold a room. A credit card is required to check in (the credit card gets authorized for the full amount of the stay meaning room, tax and a percentage for incidentals) Guests are welcome to pay cash when they check out at which point any holds on said credit card are released.
This really depends where you go and who's working the front desk. Some people handle things differently than their coworkers would, and some people will make a judgment call based on the impression they get of you by your appearance, speech, and body language. It will definitely not hurt for you to look and sound professional when you approach them.

As far as the hotels go, some places procedure is to take a deposit no matter what, some will not take one if you pay for the room up front, but they will take your credit card info. just in case you rack up charges or cause damage and try to skip out on them. They don't want to get burned.
