Because a group, the Gideons, has sufficient funds and personnel to provide such a thing.
If you would like to have other religious texts in hotels, found such an organization and make your case.
Even as an atheist I see no harm and no foul in the Gideon's efforts. It's certainly non-obtrusive, compared to the methods some other Christian groups use.
';Here is a book. We believe it holds the truth. You can pick it up or not at your choosing and the prompting of your conscience. No pressure, no threats, no promises.';
Would that more Christians took such an approach.
I know as an atheist myself that I'd much rather Christians all took such an approach than shoving it in my face. Why do they put bibles in hotel rooms?
While that is a very good answer, it is erroneous to think that the Gideons ';just distribute Bibles'; and then sit on their laurels. Take a look at their website and see that they too do as Christ commanded and take the Gospel ';to your face';

So the bottom line is - and this is sure to offend those so easily offended - the Gideons do precisely what folks think they don't do %26amp; then these folks give them credit for ';not doing'; it. A Christian is called by Christ to preach His Gospel %26amp; that is what we do; whether it's seen by you or not.

no, its just that some people like to pray to god every night before they go to sleep, or even during the day. and as part of their religious practice they recite some short stories or psalms from the bible. hotels provide people with a bible because about 20 years ago there had been several complaints from people staying in hotels saying that the hotel managers and workers dont respect religion and arent giving religious people the freedom they deserve. so there was a large meeting that was hosted and talked about for several weeks. they finally concluded, deciding bibles can be placed in each room as an option for some, but not a required necessity so those who are not as religious as some dont have to feel like they are getting a certain religion pushed on them.
';They'; are the Gideons and they do this because they care about the needs and concerns of people.
Given that hotels do not place an actual representative standing each room, you will have to be a little clearer on who is pushing religion.
I'm pleased to hear that you are not threatened by an empty hotel room.
Don't worry friend religion is dying its only a matter of time, i feel the same way about people putting bibles in hotel rooms lol when i go to a hotel i put the bible in the microwave.
I home school now but when i was in 7th grade a history teacher once asked the class ';who in here in not christian raise your hand'; well i didn't want to be the only one who wasn't so i kept my hand down, he then went on to say ';that's good that your all Christan those other religions are just a bunch of lies stay away from them'; church and state are not separated at all in Tennessee.
Also in my school there was a group called FCA (Fellowship of christian athletes) they wouldn't let me start a group for atheiest.
I agree, you always have the choice to pick it up at read it. The fact is an organization called the Giddens is responsible for most of those. To say that they are pushing their religion on you is to say that the phone co. is pushing a local call on you by putting a phone book in the room. It's a choice. now if they knocked on your door and started to talk to you about the bible against your will then that would be pushing.
Yeah! I bet that is why they do it. And did you notice you can't go to a hotel room nowadays that doesn't have a T.V in it! I mean it's just one ad after another...and even the shows are pushing stuff on me.
Maybe I don't like sports ESPN....get off my back!
And what's with the mint? You saying I got bad breath?
Yes. The Gideon's gave (and presumably raised) a lot of money to pay for hotel rooms to have these books. As part of the christian religion, missionary work (i.e. converting others to your religion) is essential.
Because the Evangelicals have been slowly pushing America towards theocracy since the 50's. This is just one more chip in the carving block. And someone needs to do something about it before there's nothing left.
because handing them out didn't work so they place them in hotels.. I stole one once to use as rolling paper.
they work best as fire place starter though but you have to rip the pages out a few at a time just to hear it scream
I don't think it's to push religion, I just think that it's a way to make sure that religious people can read it while they are there.
I think they should have other religious books or none at all.
I doubt they are trying to push religion on others it's just a majority in england are christen.
no...you don't have to read if you don't want to....and if it bothers you its because God is calling you....
Most hotels don't anymore.
They realized it's insulting to their non-Christian patrons.
Its another way to spread the Gospel to those who need it. No one forces anyone to read it, but it has helped save many people.
It makes a beautiful coaster.
So when you run out of rolling papers you have something to use so you can roll a joint.
Did you know that ';BIBLE'; stands for - Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth?
It's another way to spread the Gospel. Nobody is making anyone read them.
it is a tradition left over from when you had to use a fire place to keep the room warm, so they just gave you something useless for kindling
To make sure we don't run out of tissue, TP, or rolling papers.
so you can read it if you are bored or in need off spiritual guidance.
Possibly (even likely), but I thought it was there to hit the
cockroaches with.
No body is forcing anyone to read it. Its just to give people a sense of comfort if they need it.
no..u have a choice to pick it up and read it or not.
In case you run out of toilet paper.
To use as a S%26amp;M tool when things get rough.
mmm So people can read them? Worth a best answer anyway.
because some people want it there
No, because most people are christian and it's basically the number one book in the world.
