Does the US GOVT. have the right to plant secret video cameras in a single soldier's hotel room?

just to catch him in the act of sleeping with a prostitute? What if that soldier is a 1st Lieutenant in the United States army?Does the US GOVT. have the right to plant secret video cameras in a single soldier's hotel room?
Brian there is right and the Patriot Act gives them certain latitudes under certain conditions which are pretty wide in nature. They can do it if they suspect a threat to national security. There are currently several cases making their ways through the courts and I know a civilian personally that has a case that is being considered for the Supreme Court that had their civil rights denied them, their business assets confiscated and business ruined all under the guise of national security. No evidence of such was found, the case was thrown out of the local courts who had it referred to them by the federal courts originally and it is now making its way back through the Federal courts. There is a lot that they can now do, especially if the person is in the military and holds a clearance or a job that requires a clearance.Does the US GOVT. have the right to plant secret video cameras in a single soldier's hotel room?
Under the Patriot Act's ';Enhanced Surveillance Procedures'; those suspected of engaging in computer fraud or abuse (abuse would cover prostitution) the government has the authority to ';intercept wire, oral, and electronic communications relating to computer fraud and abuse offenses'; under provision 202, authority to ';share electronic, wire and oral interception information'; under provision 203b, and authority to have ';Roving surveillance authority under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act'; under provision 206.

In other words, yes it's completely legal if you're suspected of abuse.
Yes they do if they get a warrant. But only if their is suspicion that the soldier is engaging in illegal activity.

Arbitrarily no.
They cannot do it arbitrarily. They need probable cause to obtain a court ordered authorization. Rank has no bearing if it is done legally. They could videotape a general if he was suspect.
If there is sexual activity and a camera is involved, its not prostitution, its porn.
NO THEY DONT. Doing this will violate the piracy that enlisted soldiers are entitled to. If they find out that they are being spy ed on, they have the right to protest.
no he doesn't
